More About Karisa Shaffer

Raised in Auburndale, Florida, among orange groves and small town backroads, Karisa Shaffer’s life has always been shaped by music. From early childhood, she turned her bedroom into a stage, lining up dolls and toys as her audience and performing daily, long before anyone realized it was the beginning of a calling.

By six years old, she was singing on stage at her great grandfather’s church. Soon after, she was performing at county fairs, beauty pageants, local TV shows, and even bars with bands throughout Central Florida. At just ten years old, she began writing her own songs and recorded her first album.

Growing up down the street from songwriter Carl Chambers, best known for penning Alabama’s hit “Close Enough to Perfect” in the early 1980s, Karisa received early mentorship in songwriting and studio recording. On Thursday nights at Carl Allen’s Catfish Café in Auburndale, she would ask the bands for a chance to sing. They eventually welcomed her on stage, fueling what appeared to be a path destined for stardom.

At thirteen, after multiple trips doing auditions and shows in Nashville, Karisa was discovered by a wealthy man who owned businesses on Music Row at the time. He began producing her music and managing her career. What appeared to be a breakthrough season quickly became one of deep personal trauma when that same man started abusing her. The experience led to years of silent depression, even as she continued performing and writing.

In 2006, Karisa relocated to New Jersey, briefly stepping into the Jersey Shore music scene as she sought to rebuild both personally and professionally. During that season, she married, seeking a new chapter in life. The marriage ended shortly thereafter in divorce, and the depression she had been carrying quietly for years continued to deepen.

By 2012, years of unresolved trauma and private pain had taken a devastating toll. Karisa had struggled with suicidal thoughts and multiple attempts in silence, all while continuing to perform and write. Alone in her Nashville apartment, during what would become her final attempt to take her life, she heard God say, “I’m not done with you yet.”

In the silence of that apartment, God began restoring what had been broken.

Healing did not happen overnight, but her foundation began to shift.

In 2013, Karisa was baptized and remarried, choosing to build her life on faith. In 2015, she welcomed her daughter and later relocated to Colorado where she made the decision to put her music career on hold.

She focused on being a wife and mother, embracing a simpler, quieter life centered on family and Christ. The stage was no longer the priority. Home was.

But the calling never left.

In December 2025, a fire stirred within her again. Not for fame. Not for attention. But for purpose. Karisa began writing and recording once more, this time from a place of healing and clarity.

Today, residing in Colorado, her country roots remain strong. As an artist, she now focuses on Christian music, releasing songs that reflect her faith, her life, and the hope she’s found in Christ.

Her story and her music are rooted in survival, surrender, and restoration.

Because when God says, “I’m not done,” He means it.
